10 mio. hits or web sites Explanation: It could in fact mean both, but I think that they're referring to the fact that 10 mio. web sites have been visited/accessed through their website, which is becoming more a portal than a site. And, well, they're mentioning 'Sites' themselves, so why hesitate ? |

10 million sites were accessed/ 10 million hits Explanation: I agree with the asker that given the context, the author wished to refer to 10 million hits. This should have been expressed as: Das (or is it der?) Site wurde 10 million mal aufgerufen. (Based on an analogy with: Diese Seite wurde 82 aufgerufen, davon 3 mal in diesem Monat at foot of www.1-2-3-gaestebuch.de/buch.gb/benutzer= BOMBERSKIN) However, as it is written, it means '10 million sites were accessed'. This doesn't make sense to me in the context. I find it implausible that ten million different sites could be accessed from one single travel site, even if it is also a portal. So, the real question is whether you see it as a your role as a translator to faithfully reproduce this mistake in English, or to try to correct it. And I honestly don't know the answer! |

Well, as far as I understand this, the routes are alredy pre-programmed into the Explanation: actual Web-site, and called up by users. The 10 million sites therefore, in my opinion are' accessed route-plans'. |
