Wahrscheinlich gibt es im Englischen irgendeine besser klingende Antwort, zB light engineer or light officer or theater lighting positioner - Berufsbezeichnungen fallen ja oft etwas wohlklingender aus als im Deutschen

Notes to answerer
Asker: "light positioner" gets a mere 8 google hits, none of which refers to a job or skill, so I think there must be a better expression in English, unless this is another "untranslatable".

Light board operator
The light board operator programs the light board along with the lighting designer. As the title implies, the light board operator (commonly referred to as the "Light Op" or "Board Op") is the person who operates the light board. These come in many forms, from simple to complex. For more information on light boards and their operation, see the Light Board Page.
The light board operator may in some cases also be the lighting designer for a production.
