German term or phrase: Er kehrt zurück in seine Stammeinheit
Help please.
I really can't find what Stammeinheit means.

Here is some context:
Er kann seine Höhenangst nicht bezwingen, sein Traum vom Fallschirmspringen ist geplatzt. Er kehrt zurück in seine Stammeinheit.

First I thought of obscurity, but I think it means something completely different, yet I can't seem to figure it out.

thank you all

He returns to his own unit
Explanation:
Seems like a soldier on a parachute course who fails it because of his fear of heights and has to return to the unit from which he came.

He returns to his original unit.

Explanation:
More context is needed. My guess is that this is a military context. Someone tried out as a paratrooper but gives up because he can't overcome his fear of heights and "returns to his original (military) unit.
