German to English translations [Non-PRO] Other | | German term or phrase: Stelle | My brain is giving up on me. Could someone help with a simple question. In a description of software, the user can display the name, telephone number and "Lokation" of an employee. Then:
Als Stelle des Mitarbeiters wird jene Stelle angezeigt, an der der Mitarbeiter hauptamtlich beschäftigt ist.
The client's termbase insists Stelle is to be translated as "role" but I think this is just another word for "Lokation". |

| | English translation:position | Explanation: You might also use "job" but position sounds more high-falutin!

You might change this to just German instead of German to English. However, I guess I misunderstood what you were saying with "Lokation." In my experience, 'Stelle' is rarely, if ever, used in the sense of where. It might be 'department' or actual job title, but I have not seen it as location. |

Asker: The question was really whether this was role/job/position or "location/place of work". This is referred to elsewhere and agian the data displayed is just name, telephone number and location. My frazzeled brain is too tired to work it out.
Asker: Actually I thought this question was going to native speakers of German but it seems to have come out as native speakers of English!
Asker: many thanks. This turns out to be another bit of lousy writing in the source Client confirms this is "role".
