However, it icould also refer to the fact that you need three "grandmaster norms" to be awarded the official title of "international grandmaster". Assuming Gilg had already two of the norms in the bag, beating someone of Alekhine's calibre would have automatically secured for him the 'Meisterdrittel'. the text probably needs some corroboration

Explanation:
Hi,

may be you can translate it with "mastertrippel". However the German word seems to be constructed.
If you are familiar with the football language, i.g. "they got the trippel", this means they got three titles in one season. I think this is what the German author will say. He means that the winner got three victories.
