"Rollende Landstraße" Transit Train Explanation: A Rollende Landstraße is a freight train which transport trucks in a piggy-back fashion. I found above term in: www.railroadtrain.com/2001_items/marklin_new_3.htm Yes,I know, this is about model trains, but I think that the manufacturers, Märklin, know their trains. You are welcome to laugh! :-)) Can't help regarding any dictionaries/websites, sorry. |

Trucks on Rails or similar Explanation: I found a clear explanation for "rollende Landstrasse" here: http://www.voev.ch/politik/verkehr/gueter/kombinie.html This includes the definition: "Eine spezielle Unterart davon ist die sog. "Rollende Landstrasse", wo ganze Lastwagen und Sattelschlepper auf der Bahn transportiert werden. " I.e. the whole truck is transported on a train. I don't know if there is an equivalent in English at the moment but I would probably use something like: "Trucks on Rails". Reference: http://www.voev.ch/politik/verkehr/gueter/kombinie.html |
