Momma Poel

Hi, Kylee,

This is not a common name that can be translated easily, but, it's not a rare name either.

There is a town called Poehlde, approx. 200 kms sse from Hannover, close to the Universities of Göttingen and Clausthal-Zellerfeld and only 5 kms from the former East German Border.

That place could be the origin of the name, most of the Poehls you find in the internet, live in the northern part of Germany. Still, this is just a guess.

Another idea is, that your ancestors might have migrated from Poland centuries ago.

Why don't you just contact some of your namesakes?

Good luck and lots of fun!

Some people get their surnames from the town where their ancestors came from. If you look at the site below, you'll see that there's a good chance your mama's ancestors came from Poehl in the state of Mecklenburg, Germany.
