It's also called Waschbrettmuster, as Dzasmin already mentioned, but if you take a look at Page 46 at
http://books.google.de/books?id=mg0Sdg8dCJwC&pg=PA283&lpg=PA...
I think that the picture referring to corrugation (also called ropes) looks pretty much as the defect meant by Riegelbildung.

Oh, sorry - It wasn't Dzasmin.
But washboarding sounds rather "unusual", doesn't it?

Asker: Thanks Bernd, I have just found this definition of rope marks or corrugations on printwiki A paper web defect characterized by bands of uniform width running around the perimeter of a paper roll in the machine direction within which are patterns resembling rope or tire treads, caused by variations in paper thickness across the width of the web and by greater stretching of the web during calendering and winding. Rope marks are also called chain marks and corrugations. (See also Ridge.)
