agree  gangels: par. 1, in the US, it's just 'utility patent'
38 mins
  -> Thanks, the Americans even say 'petty patent', and par. is also another option depending on the intended audience

disagree  Astrid Elke Johnson: We call it a search request. "Application" is not really the right word.
9 hrs
  -> Who is *we*? You should back up a disagree, or is it a disagree because of my neutral? I'd be grateful for any references who the *we* is?

neutral  bambam: as to the "we": "Anträge" are "requests" in IP, at least according to the EPC, which is available in DE; FR and EN

A search request pursuant to Sec. 1 Utility Model Act has been filed.

Explanation:
I work in the field of patents.

--------------------------------------------------

It is not Section 1, however, but Section 7:

§ 7 GebrMG - Recherche

--------------------------------------------------

Just to avoid confusion, GbmG and GebrMG are two different abbreviations for Gebrauchsmustergesetz.

neutral  EdithK: any references? // Quite easy to post the meaning of GbmG after you have read my posting. // Sorry to correct you, your addition was posted at 14 min i.e. 8 min after.
1 min
  -> The meaning of GmbG is generally known, and would have been easy for Kathy to find on the Internet. The term which she needed help with was "Rechercheantrag". As for the posting of answers, they were both posted at 6 minutes, but mine marginally earlier.

neutral  Kim Metzger: I've never seen Abs. translated as section, Astrid. § is article or section and Abs. is either para. or sub-section.
3 hrs
  -> Thanks, Kim! Yes, you are right. Something is missing from the source document. It should be Sec. 7(1), as I noted above!

agree  bambam: Ja, Recherche ist §7 I GbmG. Ich würde ggf. Art. statt Sec. nehmen, da zumindest in EU dem geneigtem Leser Art. aus dem EPÜ bekannt sind. Ach ja, "German ..." sollte zum Gesetz genannt werden.
10 hrs
  -> Danke! Nützlicher Kommentar.

agree  Alison MacG: with request and with your proposed correction to Section 7, paragraph 1
11 hrs
  -> Thank you, Alison!

agree  Rebecca Garber: with request.
17 hrs
  -> Thank you, Rebecca!

disagree  Astrid Elke Johnson: The context is given (GbmG) and is fully written out in my answer. We call it a "search request" in the trade. It is nothing to do with research.
