German to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Patents / US English
German term or phrase: besonders bevorzugt
I know from a previous thread that bevorzugt is translated as preferred, but how do you escalate it in patent language
bevorzugt - preferred
weiter bevorzugt - further preferred
besonders bevorzugt - particularly preferred
äusserst bevorzugt - highly preferred ?
are there fixed terms for this?
Thanks Wendy

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks - but do you have any references confirming this is the official terminology used in US patents?

neutral  philgoddard: I don't think the two adverbs work very well together.

-> Perhaps not in "everyday" language, but I can assure you that this is an extremely common expression in the patent world! See http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&q="particularly preferably" p...

agree  Alison MacG: with preferably (or preferred depending on the formulation used), more pref, particularly pref, most pref. Here is a US patent originally written in EN using all of these (i.e. not a TR from DE) http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/5206408/description.html

agree  Rebecca Garber: with preferably (although, like Alison, I agree that preferred also works sometimes). Patentese is a very specific dialect not to be confused with English.

Particularly preferred

Explanation:
NOT "preferably", in most cases. But of course, context
could change that. "Preferred" is a verb used as an adjective.
"Preferably" is an adverb.

particular preference

Explanation:
Although it does require some "recasting," I often handle this phrase this way.

Besonders bevorzugt werden jedoch xxx verwendet.
Particular preference, however, is given to the use of xxx.

Check out the reference I gave you.

most preferably

Explanation:

I am just translating a patent and this is what I see:

"... if the smallest sum probability in comparison of the first sequence to the second sequence is less than about 1, preferably less than about 0.1, more preferably less than about 0.01, and most preferably less than about 0.001."

e.g.
This amount generally ranges from about 1% to about 20% by weight of the composition, more preferably about 3% to about 5% by weight of the composition. 3% by weight of salt is most preferably included in the present compositions.

Preferably, the tablet of the present invention has a hardness of at least about 10 scu, more preferably at least about 15 scu, most preferably of about 15 scu to about 30 scu. The hardness of a tablet is measured by the force in kp (kilopond) or SCU (1 SCU=1.4 kp) required to break the tablet. Preferably, the tablet of the present invention has a friability of less than 1%, more preferabl less than 0.5%, most preferabl less than 0.1%.

Sorry, about the last reference, where "more preferabl" should read "more preferably" and "most preferabl" should read "most preferably".
