OK, in that case I would settel for "expanded" or "sectional" view. I thought that "aufgewickelt" might have stemmed from a previous poor translation!?

The particular drawing shows the pipes in series inside a tank, i.e. in a two-dimensional view. However, you may be right with regard to "developed" as there are a number of mis-spelt words and omissions in the text overall so "abgewickelt" may have been the intention.

Maybe it's too early or yesterday's wine is still limiting my mental capacities but I just can't figure out what the illustration should look like. For surfaces the math term "developed" is often used but this shouldn't be suitable here, should it?
The correct German term, though, would be abgewickelt.

The coils are constructed from pipe sections welded together. I think the "aufgewickelte" refers to the view of the arrangement, i.e. unrolled or suchlike.
