German term or phrase: Gesetzesvorstoss
Context:
"Wie bei Orson Welles handelt Césars Adaption von Verwirrspielen um Begriffe wie Authentizität, Einmaligkeit, Originalität, Realität, Wahrheit, Fiktion, Illusion, Täuschung, Kopie, Fälschung, **Gesetzesvorstoss**, Intentionalität und Kreativität."

transgression
Explanation:
If it is Gesetzesverstoss, then I would use "transgression" here. It offers you one word to fit in the list of other single words and has the exact same meaning as the German : "infringement or violation of a law (Merriam Webster).

It is also the word for this idea most often found in literature and literary contexts.

agree  Steffen Walter: Yes. In the context provided, it is very unlikely that a governmental/parliamentary initiative (Gesetzesvorstoß) is meant here.

neutral  xxxFrancis Lee: don't fit the context IMO

Gesetztesvorstoss
illegality / breach of the law

Explanation:
There is already one typo in your headline 'Gesetztes-' so why not two: Vorstoss > Verstoß?
Otherwise 'Gesetzesvorstoss' would mean something like 'draft law' or 'proposed new law'

Sorry, forgot to add 'infringement' and 'violation'. You could also consider 'transgression' for this context.
Any feedback from the client as to whether it should be 'Gesetzesvorstoss' or 'Gesetzesverstoß'?

-> Thanks, Steffen. I think you and I were coming to the same conclusion simultaneously. Yet another example of the case for time stamping comments/queries in the AtA box.

agree  xxxFrancis Lee: "illegality" fits the (subsequently added) context; http://plaza.ufl.edu/icon2480/academia/essays/reality.pdf

-> Thanks, Fran. Does now seem to be a straightforward case of the law of the land rather than some higher moral law.

Explanation:
A punchy alternative. Assuming it's "Verstoss"
