German term or phrase: Letztgänger
This is the name given to "retired" Guardians. I can't think of any translation that sounds much good. Does anyone have any inspiration?

Guardians of the Hearth
Explanation:
Just a fantasy "title" that would indicate their status of "guardians" and their space --the home. "Hearth" has some mythologically powerful connotations....
Don't know if this fits in with the general feeling of the fantasy :-)

It took me a while to construct the sentence here and in the other place it occurs, but I like this option best. Thanks everyone.

guardian elder(s)

Explanation:
I quite like your "retired guardians" since this is what they are, but I guess you wanted something more to go with the fantasy story (it's Kryson, right?).
To make it sound a bit more fantasy-like maybe "guardian elders","old guardians" or "elderhood guardians"

aftercessor

Explanation:
Not to sure. Even thought of suggesting "successor".

"Aftercessor" gets almost exactly as many hits as "letztgänger" - roughly zero.
