Die Alterität der Vergangenheit ist also auch nach Wunberg in ihrer Opazität begründet, wobei auch er – in Analogie zur Verflechtung von Autobiographie und Geschichte in L’amour, la fantasia – einen Zusammenhang zwischen Biographie und Historiographie als jenen Dokumenten herstellt, über welche die Vergangenheit erst produziert wird. Vergangenheit existiert also nicht an sich und als historisches a priori. Wie schon durch den linguistic turn formuliert, ist sie vielmehr ein sprachliches Konstrukt. Diesem Konstrukt liegt wiederum eine Materialität zugrunde, die Djebar ihr historisch-literarisches Projekt einer Laut-Archäologie erst ermöglicht.
