German term or phrase: als gölte keine Ferne
I'm unable to find the term "gölte" in any dictionaries. Has anyone come across this. Here's the word in the context of the poem:

Schatten.
Was ist drüben? Unterm Moos bittet
Die Erde solch ein Wissen. Will noch die Hand?
“Nein.” Was will noch? “Nichts.” Und trotzdem?
Ungestümes Wort, vom Tage satt und reif: Knabenhorn. . .
Nun ist es leicht gesagt. “Was du nich alles hoffst!?

as if there were no distance
Explanation:
it's the subjunctive of gelten - so subjunctive in English too (i.e. "were" rather than "was")

Thanks to all who provided input and suggestions. I had a hunch that "gölte" was related to "gelten", but couldn't find any resources to confirm the hunch.

Explanation:
Der archaische Unterton aber --- "as if no distance went for aught"?
