As we don't know the context, we don't know why the person concerned is saying this and thus what the intended meaning is. A phrase that springs to mind and might work, if the context is appropriate, is 'Marry in haste, repent at leisure'. Not posted because it might be completely irrelevant.
giving adequate context is a fruitless enterprise (for you and your potential helpers) as witnessed by your 7 questions left open because there were no "valid answers" and the 44 questions closed without grading. And aren't you going to close the 8 questions that are still open?
It depends -- I was referring to the last syllable only, which would be considered the "standard" rhyme. Of course the orig. rhyme comprises more than that.
At any rate, I just wanted to provide a starting point ... if there's no established English version, you take the rhyme first and look up what your options are wrt semantics or "meaning" (and not the other way round) -- that's how you do this (IMHO).
But you were correct that the context was lacking.
It is from a rustic novel. Someone's remark regarding someone else's wedding. Something like "marriage is bittersweet", but is there an English saying for that?
You forgot to tell us the context.
Opolt: there are almost no words that rhyme with marriage, unless you find something else ending in "-age", such as carnage. But it might be possible to come up with a play on words that's not a rhyme.
... adopted for "poetic" purposes -- not too infrequent (in either language, I'd say).
A rhyming dictionary should provide you with a large number of options -- such as this one (enter e.g. "marriage" at the top). http://www.writeexpress.com/online2.html
As you'll see, there are lots of suitable words to choose from.
