I've found the following German definition, but can't find an English term:
"Eine weitere Bedeutung des Wortes ist die Bezeichnung des Raumes, der beim abfallenden Druck über den Seitenrand hinausgeht."

Didn't know there'd be so much printing jargon when I took on a "travel and tourism" job!!
