Tech/Engineering - Printing & Publishing / Trade Magazine
German term or phrase: Druckauflage
"Einziges Kunststoff-Magazin in den GUS-Staaten, das nicht nur eine „Druckauflage“ ausweisen kann, sondern eine „Tatsächlich verbreitete Auflage“, die regelmäßig von der IVW, Berlin, geprüft wird. Auflagenwahrheit und –klarheit sind somit garantiert!"

From a short text about some trade journals or magazines related to plastics and extrusion. I have ascertained from research that "Druckauflage" generally means "print run", but the context here seems to indicate something more like "printed circulation", perhaps. I'm not really sure though, and am also confused by "Tatsächlich verbreitete Auflage" (what's the difference between that and a "Druckauflage"?) and "Auflagenwahrheit" (is the Auflage part really necessary in this instance?). TIA for your help.

Print run
Explanation:
The IVW is the German equivalent of the ABC, which audits the circulation of media.

They confuse the issue somewhat - what they are saying is that unlike some trade publications, they are IVW-audited.

'Tatsächlich verbreitete Auflage' is total distributed circulation, which is obviously lower than the print run but higher than e.g. the paid circulation and includes free and promotional copies etc.

I should perhaps add that publishers use the auditing to lend authenticity to their circulation claims so that they can sell (more) advertising.

Sorry for the late grading. Print run it is. Many thanks Textklick, and also to the peer graders who made my decision rather easier. But thanks also to the others who offered an idea. Appreciate everyone's help.

agree  BirgitBerlin: Indeed. The two other answers refer to "tatsächlich verbreitete Auflage", not the actual question.

circulated copies

Explanation:
...yes, they're referring to circulation of the copies here more than the print run.

'circulated copies' would refer to the 'Tatsächlich verbreitete Auflage' -- as for 'Auflage,' Chris is right -- it is simply 'print run'
