German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Printing & Publishing / Software for processing print jobs | | German term or phrase: Merkzettel | I am currently translating an operating manual for software that is used when processing print jobs. It allows the customer to communicate electronically with the printing company. The sentence below appears in the section where personal preferences can be set and appears under the heading "Merkzettel." Can anyone please suggest a good translation for the word "Merkzettel."

| | English translation:Notepad | Explanation: 'Merkzettel' in this context would be used to refer to a list, presumably, of files that will be repeatedly accessed. The Merkzettel will then be used to aid quick access to commonly-opened files.
A list of things to do can be referred to as a Merkzettel for example.

A definition of 'Merkzettel' could be 'notepad', however individual pages also have the same name as far as I am aware.

Additional - you could use the 'Merkzettel' also as a list of shortcuts to areas of a file/database or to individual files.

Please note that some seem to be focusing on 'Merkzettel' as a singular and in that case the arguments are correct. The question author clearly states however that he is referring to a section with the heading 'Merkzettel', which implies the plural. You write notes on a notepad, therefore this translation still applies. Also for many software applications phrases like 'Sticky Notes' may be considered too informal.
An example: A heading in the preferences entitled 'Notepad' where the user can create multiple flags or notes to attach to files in order to be able to rapidly locate them in future.
