German to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Printing & Publishing / Operating Procedure
German term or phrase: Ausdruck
"Ausdruck unterliegt nur autorisiert dem Änderungsdienst."

From a dental company's operating procedure to do with handling a cross-linking agent. This phrase appears on the cover page. I'm not sure what "Ausdruck" is in this context. My current guess is "Original will only be updated if this is authorised." I found "original" in LEO, and it seems to fit in the context, but I'm not very sure about it as no other dictionary has it. I wonder about "hard copy" - would that work in the context of an operating procedure? TIA for your help.

The original will be revised only if authorized.
Explanation:
I think the term 'original' looks like it corresponds to the context, but my suggested version is more condensed, omits the unnecessary 'it is,' and puts the restrictive adjective 'only' in a more forceful position.

Yes, I like this, although "document" also seemed plausible (in this particular context, at least). Many thanks KAJohnson, but thanks also to the other contributors - appreciate everyone's help.

In a way, Rowan, you've answered your own question in your discussion post: "You update the document being printed out, perhaps, but not the printout itself!"
