Why would you update a printout? You update the document being printed out, perhaps, but not the printout itself! (Well, I suppose you could scribble stuff on individual printouts, but that's hardly "updating" them.) So I'm still leaning to "original", as I think it's referring to the master on which any other copies or printouts are based, but I also wonder whether "hard copy" could work. A hard copy is a more permanent thing than a regular copy, and perhaps it could be updated whenever the main document is. It they do mean original or master here, it would be helpful if they could use a word that more specifically meant that. |
