German to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Psychology | | German term or phrase: Methodismus | This is from an academic text discussing the use of psychological research tools in forensic science:
The author assures me that the term is a "feststehender psychologische Fachbegriff," but it doesn't appear in my bilingual dictionary of psychology (Roland Haas). The following two sites, however, discuss a form of "methodism" in philosophy:
http://books.google.de/books?id=wN5tj_01aaAC&pg=PA482&lpg=PA...
http://www.the-philosopher.co.uk/mille.htm
Is "methodism" a psychological term of art in English, and if so, how does one distinguish it from the religious denomination? (Just a lower case "m"?)
I'd be grateful for any input. |

| Grading comment Thanks! If I am going to distinguish the word from the religious denomination, it will have to be with a lower case "m"! 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |

"Methodism is a movement of Christianity represented by a number of denominations and organizations, claiming a total of approximately seventy million adherents worldwide."
I hope that I have correctly understood your question. The church denominations following the methodist movement are called "Methodists" as in Calvinistic Methodists, Free Methodists, and United Methodists.

Asker: I'm looking for a word that is a term of art in psychology and which has nothing to do with the religious denomination, unless perhaps both have the same philosopnical underpinnings. I'd prefer a word, if it at all exists, that is distinguishable from religious methodism.
