This is from a marriage certificate of 1960.
I can only find 'Ihre Hochwohlgeboren' for I. H. But would that apply to a Chaplain?

What I have is a photocopy in landscape format. The right hand side is a hand written birth certificate. The left hand side that I have quoted from is the last page of a marriage record of some kind - also handwritten. So it starts off with "durch I. H. Stadtkaplan (name of the chaplain), then a few blank lines and "kirchlich getraut worden." at the end. It's from the Dillingen Katholisches Stadtpfarramt. That's the offical stamp. Then there is a Trau.-Reg. No.
Below that is a section called Geleitwort zur Trauung - Trautext.
The I. H. is handwritten as is the Stadtkaplan. It looks like an "I" to me. Perhaps it is something else. Oh! Now that I have read Andrea's comment , I think it might be a poorly formed "S". I think that is probably it!

because that was a form of address reserved for the lesser nobility (hochgeboren = high-born).
Agree with Andrea that there might be an error in your source text, and agree with Bernhard that we need more information to be sure.

Hello Shane. The marriage cert. is from 1960. Can you provide the whole sentence if there is one, and any info related to the header of the certificate (city, church location, denomination...) Thx.
It seems that especially the "I" is a problem. I don't think the "H" stands for "Hochwohlgeboren" - in 1960.

Natürlich auch für männliche Hochwürden, aber NUR in der Anrede. Sonst heißt es "SEINE Hochwürden" = "getraut durch SEINE Hochwürden, Stadtkaplan ....". Deshalb kann I.H. hier eigentlich NICHT für "Ihre Hochwürden" stehen.

I think "hochwohlgeboren" is more in terms or royalty. "Hochwürden" is for clergy, but no idea if a chaplain would apply or if you'd have to be a proper priest for that.

I'd say it's possible it means Ihr Hochwürden (The Reverend/Reverend Father) but I can't seem to find it abbreviated as I.H.

LittleBalu: Mit Sandra - es sei denn, der Kaplan wäre eine Frau gewesen. // Hier http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geistlicher steht, dass Kaplane als Hochwürden tituliert werden. Kann also durchaus sein. Ob es ein Fehler im Ausgangstext ist? Kann natürlich auch sein.
