From an article on the relationship between Church and State in Europe post-French Revolution. The term is in italics in the original text. Is there something better than God's ruler?

Das „Recht von Volkes Gnaden“ steht in diametralem Gegensatz zum „Recht von Gottes Gnaden“. Dessen Garant ist einzig der religiös und sittlich verpflichtende Gehorsam gegenüber dem Monarchen als *Walter Gottes*. Nur der Monarch ist berechtigt, das Recht, das Gott gesetzt hat, und das die Menschen – schon bevor sich eine Ordnung bildet – vorfinden, auszulegen.

neutral  John Fenz: I think this is also a correct translation. My only reservation is that is sounds archaic. However, it was a term used by Hume to discuss the "Divine Right of Kings"
