Rome was very polyglot and accretive in its religions and religious practices. They absorbed from everyone. However, because Christianity denied the divinity of the emperor, the religion and its teachings were banned. Which is whyother salvational/redemptive religions were accepted/accreted, but not Christianity. It's a political move; it doesn't mean that Christianity is less salvational/redemptive than others.

but it sounds like your text is dealing with pre-Christian times, when the concept of salvation already existed, even before it was tied to Christianity. They integrated the concept of salvation as it was conceived in Asia, but not that of Christianity.
