German term or phrase: die protestantische Sicht oder die evangelische Stimme
Please could you help with this. I am at a loss as to how to translate the last sentence.

English translation:"the one" Protestant view, or "the one Protestant voice"
Explanation:
The opinion of certain representatives of the church, that only "the one" Protestant view on ethical questions should be presented to the public, was no longer convincing (not a completely accurate translation of that part of the sentence)

Dear Fionna - not as far as I know, but I'm not an expert. All I know is that "protestant" can be used for both, and that "evangelical" has, I believe, certain different connotations in English.

see the definitions here:
relating to or being a Christian church believing in personal conversion and the inerrancy of the Bible especially the 4 Gospels; "evangelical Christianity"; "an ultraconservative evangelical message"
- of or pertaining to or in keeping with the Christian gospel
- especially as in the first 4 books of the New Testament
- marked by ardent or zealous enthusiasm for a cause.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you very much. Is there a difference between protestantische and evangelische?

neutral  Armorel Young: no need for one - "the" Protestant view and "the" Protestant voice is sufficient, as is "die" in German

-> I agree, though I feel that "the" is weaker than the German article and needs sth to support it. In German e.g. you can say "Das ist DIE Idee", but I think in English it's uncommon to give such weight to the article "the". (May just be me!!)

agree  orla: I kind of agree, when speaking we might say THE view, or even write it in capitals but here I think 'the one' is a good alternative, the im singular isnt so relevant in EN, maybe you can leave it out.

a unified protestant view(point)

Explanation:
Another option which just clarifies the phrase a bit more.
