  -> Thank you, verbis!

agree  Kim Metzger: Definitely grain. I think something more formal is needed for "a lot of" though. / When I met the German girl who became my wife, I sang to her: "the corn is as high as an elephant's eye" and she thought it was about a wheat field

  -> I agree. Writeaway below has got it right. Funny!!!! I wished I had caught a glimpse of that!

agree  writeaway: or a lot of schnapps (which would help pass the time during the winter). an ant spends the summer carrying large quantities of grain to its home. (is it a house, a hill, a hole, a tunnel, a castle??) :-)

  -> No rest for the wicked! Boozing would only raise the queen's eyebrows. Your translation is perfect, imo.

agree  Will Matter: This is the best translation, sorry it wasn't posted yet when i made my previous "agrees". Very, very good.

Correction: an ant brings a lot of corn into its house or stores a lot corn in its house.

agree  Will Matter: Also acceptable but i would've put "...brings/stores.." instead since you used two separate English verbs to translate the same verb in German.

  -> I goofed. I meant to use only "brings." Thank for the heads up.
