Hintergrund der Studie ist die Erkenntnis, dass vor allem in Impulswarengruppen und auf größeren Flächen die Abschöpfungsquote - also der Anteil der Personen, die aus den Hauptlaufgängen in einzelne Abteilungen kommen - stark ausbaufähig ist.

Anybody know this? "absorption rate" refers to real estate and other contexts it would be "take-up rate".

Explanation:
i.e. unplanned buying or buying on impulse, as a bonus for the business.

skimming [off the top] has a negative connotation in the US, besides, skimming rate doesn't really make sense here.
