Die Shopping-Center befinden sich weiterhin im Aufwind. Anfang 2006 zählte das EHI Retail Institute insgesamt 372 Shopping-Center mit Mietflächen von mehr als 10.000 qm und in den nächsten Jahren werden jährliche Zuwachsraten von durchschnittlich 4 Prozent erwartet. Auch wenn nicht alle bekannten Planungen umgesetzt werden können, ist davon auszugehen, dass in den nächsten vier Jahren mehr als 60 neue Shopping-Center entstehen werden und mit der Anzahl der Center wächst natürlich auch die Miet-/Verkaufsfläche, die für die Versorgung der Bevölkerung zur Verfügung steht.
