KONTEXT: Der Entwickler einer UI-Komponente ist für die Erstellung eines Navigation-Descriptor-Objekts verantwortlich. Damit kann geprüft werden, ob ein Navigationsziel zur Verfügung steht, oder das Descriptor-Objekt kann per Data Collection dem Inbound-Plug der Zielkomponente übergeben werden, um die Navigation durchzuführen.
I'd like to clarify if the damit here does indeed relate to the navigation descriptor object (so that the translation would be something along the lines of "It can be used to check...etc.") or does it mean more along the lines of "so that". In other words, the developer is responsible for etc. etc. which means that he/she can perform a check to verify if a navigation destination is available. I'm just a bit unsure because the descriptor object is subsequently mentioned again in this sentence and I wonder if the author is making a differentiation here?

my first impression too was that it refers to the descriptor object... since the d.object itself is mentioned after the comma I was not sure ... should have trusted my first impression... nonetheless I suppose grammar in this phrasing makes a big difference...
I'd say that the damit is referring to the navigation descriptor itself.

Asker: Thank you, schnitzelplanet, but don't you mean that the navigation descriptor object is the subject of the sentence, not the component, e.g. the navigation descriptor object is used for checking...etc.?
