German to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - SAP / cost types
German term or phrase:sonstige gesetzlich tarifliche und freiwillige soziale Leistungen
I don't have any context. I have to translate cost types - looks like out of a SAP-System - for my company. I work here as a student and have never had financial English. Apparently, it is also hard to translate 'Kostenartenplan' :-( But, if anyone had an idea or a good link he could provide for me to look those accounts up, that would be REALLY great. Because i am pretty much screwed right now -.-
@Phil: Aren't you confusing "Kostenplan" with this "Kostenartenplan"? It doesn't sound like a budget to me, but rather some schedule of various expense accounts. And the asker herself brought up the subject of SAP...
I don't agree that it's well-nigh impossible to translate - it just means an itemized expense budget. And I think we're getting too hung up on SAP terminology - they just want to know what the German says.
It isn't hard to translate "Kostenartenplan", it's well-nigh impossible. Basically, what this is is the part of a standard chart of accounts (Kontenplan) containing only the expense accounts (i.e. no income accounts, no asset, liability, or equity accounts, no cash accounts). You could write round it by saying something like "cost accounts contained in (the) chart of accounts", but I think that's as good as you'll get in English.
... a sort of Académie Anglaise (i.e. the official arbiters of what constitutes 'correct' English terminology), except that it is run by Germans. Slightly bizarre situation, IMO.
SAP software is localized from German to English. While it's better now, when it was originally localized the decision was made to do it in-house, using native Germans who "kann Englisch". The result was legacy Denglish that often has no connection to real world business/financial English. But SAP users (and translators) are stuck with it since it would be far too expensive to change at this point.

Tariflich means it's laid down by a collective agreement with employees of a particular sector, region or country.
