Codling moth (?) Explanation: Codling moth (?) These terms of yours are elusive. I found nothing relevant in my dictionaries. So I decided to concentrated on Grapholita lobarzewski (only 2 hits (any language) on AltaVista. The 'Namensgebung' is somewhat confusing, so please check some of these out before using. (A) "grapholita lobarzewski" AltaVista: only 2 pages found (1 of these unavailable) >>petite tordeuse des fruits Kleiner Fruchtwickler Grapholita lobarzewski tordeuses<< http://193.5.216.31/sar/faw/PSMV_f/pb_vzser.htm Perhaps named after polish scientist Jerzy Lobarzewski, whose name keeps popping up in related contexts. (B) According to this URL, there is no common American name. http://www.pherobank.com/en/sales/pherolist.html But (C) According to the following URLs (looked up in series) an apparently more common name is Laspeyresia [= Cydia] pomonella = codling moth Apfelwickler Fachhochschule Weihenstephan, Institut für Botanik und Pflanzenschutz Deutschland Deutsch Beschreibung des Apfelwicklers Laspeyresia [= Cydia] pomonella und dessen Schadbild http://www.dainet.de/dain/dainadk/gartenbau_obstbau_insgesam... http://www.fh-weihenstephan.de/va/bot_ps/merkblat/apfelwic.h... http://203.97.170.4/MAFnet/publications/9596scrs/9596sc13.ht... AltaVista: +laspeyresia +apple : 48 pages found (D) There is a good bit of information on biological classification: Tortricoidea Tortricidae - Wickler Beispiele · Tortrix viridana - Eichenwickler · Rhyacionia buoliana - Kieferntriebwickler · Laspeyresia pactolana - Fichtenrindenwickler · Retinia (=Petrova) resinella - Kiefernharztriebwickler http://www.forst.tu-muenchen.de/EXT/LST/ZOOLO/HEITLAND/DETIN... http://www.forst.tu-muenchen.de/EXT/LST/ZOOLO/HEITLAND/DETIN... (D) and on pest control in this context (including organic): +"apple production" +pests 521 pages found http://orchard.uvm.edu/uvmapple/pest/default.html Organic Pest Management http://orchard.uvm.edu/uvmapple/pest/default.html#Organic Pest Management tortricoidea 30 pages found AltaVista >>+grapholita +apple<< 58 pages found Tortricidae Codling moth Cydia pomonella (Linnaeus) Tortricidae Lightbrown apple moth Epiphyas postvittana (Walker) Tortricidae Oriental fruit moth Grapholita molesta (Busck) http://farrer.agric.nsw.gov.au/Hort/ascu/zeck/lepidop.htm http://www.nature.nps.gov/nrbib/G.HTM also known as Laspeyresia lobarzewski http://www.cplscientific.co.uk/press/wda/S14/Tindex.htm http://www.agrobiologicals.com/home.html PS I already sent this answer hours ago but it hasn’t shown up on ProZ, so I’m sending it again. (A) mechanical tool for thinning blossoms; (C) row mulcher, orchard mulcher Explanation: (A) Fadengerät, Fadenausdünngerät: mechanical tool for thinning blossoms This seems to be a novel device. The translation could be refined depending on its design (snare? filament/thread/cord? line-whacker? etc. You could of course call it a _thread tool_ or _filament tool_, but a more descriptive handle would fly better in English.) << http://www.fibl.ch/aktiv/nup/1996/nup96.html#ausduennen If you must, contact: http://www.admin.ch/sar/scripts/get.pl?faw index_d.html 0 90... more specifically here: “Fruit thinning in the organic apple production ---We test different biological spray products but also a MECHANIC TOOL and different physiological [sic] hand thinning methods.---Franco Weibel, Andi Schmid” [headline >>Organic stone fruit thinning still difficult<< (no Fadengerät here -- but they tried everything else!) http://www.goodfruit.com/archive/May1-97/feature4.html Thinning (chemical:) http://www.hort.vt.edu/graduate/daward2/thinning.htm Organic URLs: http://www.gov.on.ca/OMAFRA/english/crops/facts/98-029.htm#W... (((An initial, cursory review of some (sort-of ) plausible English terms had yielded nothing relevant, but a measure of entertainment. AltaVista (English: ) \\\"thinning device\\\" \\\"thinning machine\\\" \\\"thread thinner\\\" \\\"filament thinner\\\" \\\"wire thinner\\\" 92 pages found ; word count: filament thinner: 2; thinning device: 6; thread thinner: 14; thinning machine: 35; wire thinner: 78 -- e.g.: >> 913. Vision - The Lord showed me a long thin copper wires [sic] coming from Heaven. ... Vision given to Raymond Aguilera on 29 May 1996 at 8:30 PM<< URL: www.transbay.net/prophecy/913pro.htm << >> Mr Showbiz News: News Feature: Insects Discover Acting Isn\\\'t Bliss June 3, 1997:<< URL: mrshowbiz.go.com/news/Todays_Stories/970...97_25bliss.html ))) (B) Tropfsorte This could perhaps benefit from more context. I found nothing in German, even on a Web site about syrup that included Apfelsaft. --- In AltaVista (English: ) +apple +rootstock +varieties 1,462 pages found ---- +apple +rootstock +varieties +drop 185 pages found;---- - a cursurory review of some indicates that, in English *drop/s* in the context of apple growing refers to the Isaac Newton phenomenon. (C) Unterstockmulchgerät (in this context:) row mulcher, Millcreek Row Mulcher, orchard mulcher -- more generally: mulcher or mulch spreader Strictly speaking, an Unterstockmulchgerät appears to apply to viticulture, where it is used to spread mulch UNDER the vines. In orchard management (and berry growing) --including organic -- mulching is used between the trees/plants. I don’t see any references in the context of orchards to spreading mulch UNDER the trunks, rootstocks or whatever. Mulchgerät: mulcher, mulching device Stock : rootstock (or, sometimes, stool-bed) most often used to denote (a) variety/varieties of trees, as in rootstocks (varieties of apple trees): http://www.sln.potsdam.ny.us/apples.html http://www.orchardproject.org/WhichCame.htm >>Rootstocks - sometimes called \\\"stool beds”<< http://nysaes.cornell.edu/pubs/press/foxes.html orchard mulcher http://farrer.agric.nsw.gov.au/natres/organic/o-fruit.htm mulch spreader, Whatcom and Millcreek row mulchers, lease unit available for Millcreek mulcher http://www.oescoinc.com/webcat/price_list_equipment.html http://www.smartwine.com/wbm/1997/9707/bmg9763.txt http://www.millcreekmfg.com/about.cfm http://www2.ag.ohio-state.edu/~ipm/fruit/icm3.htm http://www.attra.org/attra-pub/fruitover.html >>… Millcreek Row Mulcher, which automates application of mulch and compost to field-grown and nursery container stock…<< Use Of Mulches And Herbicides In An Apple Orchard http://www.hortnet.co.nz/publications/nzpps/proceedings/94/9... http://oberon.ark.com/~innersea/planting.htm http://www.mofga.org/mofdec09.htm (viticulture:) “under-vine mulching” ; Unterstockpflege, Mulch-Unterstockkombination http://www.dainet.de:8080/AGFORBMLSTW/DDW?W=STICHWORT INC 'u... http://www.landwirtschaft-mlr.baden-wuerttemberg.de/la/lvwo/... slasher/mulcher (vines) >> Slasher/mulcher.
