German term or phrase: Fruit production terms
Dear all,

I am in the process of translating a text on organic apple production for an
agricultural research institute.

Could anyone help me with the following terms (I'm looking for appropriate
English translations)?

Fadengerät or Fadenausdünngerät (a device used for thinning the blossom)

Tropfsorte (term appears in a varietal description)

Unterstockmulchgerät - is this a mower or a row mulcher that just distributes
mulch? Is there an English term?

What is the English name for Grapholita lobarzewski (Fruchtwickler)?

Many thanks.

English translation:(A) mechanical tool for thinning blossoms; (C) row mulcher, orchard mulcher
Explanation:
(A) Fadengerät, Fadenausdünngerät:
mechanical tool for thinning blossoms

This seems to be a novel device. The translation could be refined depending on its design (snare? filament/thread/cord? line-whacker? etc. You could of course call it a _thread tool_ or _filament tool_, but a more descriptive handle would fly better in English.)

(B) Tropfsorte
This could perhaps benefit from more context. I found nothing in German, even on a Web site about syrup that included Apfelsaft. ---
In AltaVista (English: ) +apple +rootstock +varieties 1,462 pages found ----
+apple +rootstock +varieties +drop 185 pages found;----
- a cursurory review of some indicates that, in English *drop/s* in the context of apple growing refers to the Isaac Newton phenomenon.

(C) Unterstockmulchgerät (in this context:)
row mulcher, Millcreek Row Mulcher, orchard mulcher -- more generally: mulcher or mulch spreader

Strictly speaking, an Unterstockmulchgerät appears to apply to viticulture, where it is used to spread mulch UNDER the vines. In orchard management (and berry growing) --including organic -- mulching is used between the trees/plants. I don’t see any references in the context of orchards to spreading mulch UNDER the trunks, rootstocks or whatever.

Mulchgerät: mulcher, mulching device

Thank you, Tom, for your detailed comments.
Grapholita lobarzewski, syn Laspeyresia lobarzewski does indeed not seem to have a vernacular English name. It is not the Codling moth!
For the Faden(ausdünn)gerät I used the German name in quotation marks and italics and added the description " mechanical tool for thinning blossoms " as per your suggestion.
Tropfsorte remains unclear.
Unterstockmulchgerät also remains as not 100% solved. I used 'mulch spreader' and made it clear in the sentence that the machine must be able to spread mulch UNDER the trees, not ust in the aisles.

These terms of yours are elusive. I found nothing relevant in my dictionaries. So I decided to concentrated on Grapholita lobarzewski (only 2 hits (any language) on AltaVista. The 'Namensgebung' is somewhat confusing, so please check some of these out before using.

(A) "grapholita lobarzewski"
AltaVista: only 2 pages found (1 of these unavailable)
>>petite tordeuse des fruits Kleiner Fruchtwickler Grapholita lobarzewski tordeuses<<
http://193.5.216.31/sar/faw/PSMV_f/pb_vzser.htm
Perhaps named after polish scientist Jerzy Lobarzewski, whose name keeps popping up in related contexts.

(B) According to this URL, there is no common American name.

But

(C) According to the following URLs (looked up in series) an apparently more common name is Laspeyresia [= Cydia] pomonella = codling moth

(D) There is a good bit of information on biological classification:

Tortricoidea Tortricidae - Wickler
