From a text about cabinets for storing hazardous chemical materials in student labs.

At the moment, the text is discussing cabinets that are located in the laboratory itself. With cabinets located in the lab, the hazardous chemicals can effectively remain in the lab (rather than being stored somewhere else as regulations require) even at nights. Or something like that.

This sentence is saying that all that needs to be done with such cabinets is for them to be locked up at night by the "Praktikumsschluss-Dienst". I have no idea what that is. Lab lockup service? Any other ideas? TIA for your assistance.

SAALDIENST
Der Saaldienst rekrutiert sich aus allen Praktikumsteilnehmern entsprechend ausgehängter
Terminlisten. Die Ableistung des Saaldienstes wird im Testatheft tageweise vermerkt (letzte
Seite). Zur Anerkennung des Praktikums sind mindestens drei Einträge notwendig. Wer in den
Terminlisten nicht auftaucht (z. B. Nachzügler), sollte sich deshalb selbst um eine Einteilung
kümmern. Wer einen bestimmten Saaldienst terminlich nicht wahrnehmen kann, muss
rechtzeitig eine Vertretung suchen.
Während der Praktikumszeit hat sich der Saaldienst um die Leerung der Sonderabfall- und
Glasbehälter sowie auf Anfrage auch um das Auffüllen der Vorrats- und Saalchemikalien zu
kümmern.
15 Minuten vor Praktikumsschluss sind folgende Aufgaben durchzuführen:
- Kontrolle aller Arbeitsplätze und Abzüge auf Sauberkeit. Verunreinigte Plätze müssen
geputzt werden. Die Platznummer ist dann dem Assistenten mitzuteilen.
- Einsammeln verwaister Gegenstände
- Kontrolle der Waschbecken auf grobe Verunreinigungen, Abwischen des Beckenrandes
- Kontrolle, ob alle Gas- und Wasserhähne, Vakuumanschlüsse verschlossen und
elektrische Gerätestecker abgezogen sind.
- Säuberung eventuell verunreinigter Waagen

Auch wenn hier viele Aufgabenpunkte genannt sind, wird die gesamte Saaldienstzeit kaum

Explanation:
Sounds like a "lockup service" to me. And some of the students in the "Praktikum" have probably been elected for this. Or they take turns. The spelling looks odd. I'd call it
"Praktikums-SCHLIESSdienst".

I think you might have a typo or even bad German on your hands and that the word should be something like Praktikums-Schlussdienst, although I can't vouch for the German. I sense that it refers to trainees whose duty is to close up shop in the evening.
