German to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Slang / anecdote in a eulogy
German term or phrase: Offeritis; Vargangs
Two terms of Joycean mien for all I know, in an anecdote slipped into a eulogy for (irrelevant here - ) an architect. He, a national of a then non-EU country, is held up in the airport immigration/customs procedure on a visit to the UK, -
"Als wir dann... in London
ankamen, gab es unterschiedlich lange
Schlangen vor dem British Offeritis..." [und]
"... Du dann, vielleicht nach einer halben Stunde
oder länger am Behörden-Vertreter Deinen Pass
vorlegtest, ... fast unmerklich in einer
Vargangs uniformierter Personen für längere
Zeit verschwunden warst."
Any help much appreciated.
