German to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Education / Pedagogy
German term or phrase:erweiterte Realschulabschluss
This is in a listing for a résumé. Does anyone have an idea how to say this in US-EN? I believe it's secondary school leaving certificate in UK-EN, but I'm not sure how the extended fits in?
Explanation: There is really no US equivalent, as the norm is secondary (high school) graduation with diploma after the 12th grade. The closest equivalent to the German Realschule would be the techincal or polytechnic high school. From these schools there would also be the theoretical possibility to take and pass college/university entrance exams, though normally graduation leads either directly to employment in a skilled trade or middle management profession or to an apprenticeship/internship.
I realize this is not fully equivalent, but with the different systems in te various countries, it is very fifficult to come up with a perfect translation. Your suggestion, however, was the most successful. Don't know how the individual points are to be assigned, but have given you 3 pts. for you help. Thanks. 3 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Agree with Ed Beese that we need to know in which Federal State and how recently this qualification was attained.

Reference information: Secondary education, the third level of education, is divided into two levels: junior secondary education (also called intermediate secondary education) and senior secondary education. Upon completion of the Grundschule, students between the ages of ten and sixteen attend one of the following types of secondary schools: the Hauptschule, the Realschule, the Gymnasium, the Gesamtschule, or the Sonderschule (for children with special educational needs). Students who complete this level of education receive an intermediate school certificate. Adults who attend two years of classes in evening schools can also earn these intermediate school certificates, which permit further study.

erweiterte Realschulabschluss indicates that the student qualified to attend a senior secondary education institution by virtue of his grades and subjects.
Erweiterter Sekundarabschluss I
Klasse, in Niedersachsen.

The updates to the menu were made to make the site easy and more intuitive for visitors. Obviously, like any change, this may take a few days to get used to.
The dropdown menus have been divided into two-dimensional panels with similar items grouped together under headings. This eliminates scrolling for those with smaller screens, and also improves readability.
Mouseover your name at the top of the screen. Here you will find information about your account, your email settings, and more. The "My ProZ.com" menu was moved up here to simplify the main navigation, and to keep all of this type of information together.
