shadow tones; shadow detail?
Explanation:
shadow tones; shadow detail (depending on wording/context)

shadow tones/detail (vs. highlight tones/detail; in the lower and upper extremes of the tonal range in an imaging or printing process)

I'm still not sure, Ken, but I gave it a go on Google and this is my best shot; it jives with the 15-85% range. (Most hits for Druckgrenze had to do with pressure, not printing or imaging.)

The opacity of film is simply the amount of light shining on one side, divided by the amount getting through on the other. If only 0.1 percent of the light makes it through, the opacity would be one thousand. [ … ] Engineers express density as a logarithm (bas 10) of opacity.

In the Fade dialog box, move the Opacity slider to reduce the filter’s intensity. Sliding the Opacity setting [0-100%] all the way to the left [0%] makes your image look as if you never applied the filter at all. You can also adjust the blending mode for the filter here.

Tonal Range -- When we discuss tonal range, we mean the volume of gray tones between white and black. Between white (tonal coverage 0%), and black (tonal coverage 100%), there are gray tone values. At the value of 50%, 50% is white, and 50% is black. The positive halftone dot, with coverage of 5%, is very small.

FOUR COLOR PROCESS
JVC takes pride in its ability to produce an excellent quality print using four color process. -- Recommended line screen is 85 lines per inch (lpi). Acceptable range is 85 - 100 lpi. Higher line counts tend to produce more interference when screen printing CD's. This could result in distortion and color loss of the printed image.
Acceptable tonal range for 85 lpi is 15 - 85%. For 100 lpi, the range narrows to 20 - 80%.
