German to English translations [PRO]

German term or phrase: anliegen, aufliegen as in: "Eine Fläche ist als eben zu bezeichnen, wenn über die Länge und Breite sowie über die beiden Diagonalen der Fläche geprüft wird und die Prüfkante des Haarlineals überall ". With respect to a gauge that is called try-square (Anschlagwinkel) in my dictionaries the terms "Anlegeschenkel" and "Anlegefläche" appear and pose problems too. TIA mickey

English translation:knife-edge straight edge, contact flange, contact area Explanation:Haarlineal is a knife-edge straight edge or just a straight-edge if you were looking for that too. The try-square vocab is not included in Ernst but Anlegewinkelmesser is a 'contact goniometer' and Schenkel in connection with other measuring instruments is always flange so, unless anyone knows exactly what the thing is called, I would suggest the descriptive phrases below: Anlegeschenkel = contact flange Anlegeflaeche = contact area

Explanation:
A triangle consists of a hypothenuse, the bottom, and two "Schenkel", the sides. If your gauge is triangular, the Anlagesschenkel are the sides that are put against the surface to be measured, namely the Anlagefläche.
I suggest:
A surface is considered even if the "guage/ruler" (I don't know Haarlineal) touches everywhere when measuring across the length, the breadth and both diagonals of the surface.
