This is not Rilke or Goethe but a service manual writer with ambitions of grandeur who likes to stuff words like a sausage - punctuation and syntax be thrown to the wind! We wish him well. |

Neither! Explanation: 1.The lithography device was not working properly. 2. The problem was insufficient internal decontamination. 2. To the surprise of the author the problem was solved by a targeted supply of oxygen (I can not fathom why he was surprised, UV radiation + oxygen yields ozone, which decontaminates!!!) 4. It only works if the supply of contamination is kept below specified values (Well, it should be obvious that no decontamination system has an unlimited capacity!!!) Diagnosis: Acute SONK. Recommendation: Total rewrite! Translate the message, not the text! My geriatric brain. |

You have it Explanation: Surprisingly, it was namely determined that a targeted supply of oxygen to the lithography device to illuminate the exposure beam path of the radiation used is sufficient to clean the inside of the device from contamination, if the degree of contamination is monitored continuously and compared with the stated threshold values. I agree that this is closer but, how did \\\'added\\\' get in there for \\\'eingesetzt\\\'? |

In my opinion, this is what the German text really says Explanation: Surprisingly, it was found that with a targeted supply of oxygen to the lithography device, the radiation provided for exposure in its (exposure) beam path will also suffice to clear the interior of the device of contamination, provided that the degree of contamination is continuously monitored and compared with the stated threshold values. I have not translated "nämlich" because I think the style requires another expression, which would depend on the wider context. |

_namely_ is inappropriate Explanation: _namely_ is much more infrequently used in English than than is _nämlich_ in German, and then only to point to a specific person, article or concept ... by naming it. Its inclusion in your solution makes me wonder about the remainder of this answer. You seem to have some very good alternatives by some very good people. All the best, Tom |

Sorry to be a spoil-sport Explanation: Unfortunately you guys got it wrong. It is not the oxygen decontaminating the lithography unit but rather the irradiation used for exposure. The translation should be something like this: Surprisingly enough, when oxygen is fed into the lithography unit under controlled conditions the travel of the radiation beam used for exposure is sufficient to decontaminate the inside of the unit, as long as the degree of contamination is monitored continuously and compared with predefined threshhold values |
