German term or phrase: Hase/Schildkröte
Talking about a tractor:
'Armatur schlecht ablesbar (Hase/Schildkröte)'.
Obviously, he is saying that one of the instruments in the instrument panel is difficult to read but what is the significance of (Hase/Schildkröte)? Is this the instrument he can't read? Some reference to fast/slow gears maybe? I'd be grateful for any ideas.
hare and tortoise
Could this be it? Sounds like you were on the right lines with the gears thing?
Hare and tortoise
The construction site vehicle with the highest registration figures in Ireland is the Japanese Hino, which is assembled as a CKD truck in Dublin. The robust and value-for-money tipper is extremely popular with Irish companies such as Noel Tinkler. The Hino is successful wherever the Euro-directives on exhaust emissions play no role or are not controlled. The dashboard already spells out of the message: a hare displayed there symbolises the high gears, a tortoise the low ones.
Could the tractor have this same display system?
