German term or phrase: Grad deutsche Härte

I think I may need an explanation of what to do with this. I cannot find a
translation for this and am not sure that it should be translated. Nobody
else in the world knows what on earth it is anyway! So I'm not sure what to
do with it. I can offer lengthy explanations of the correlation between Grad
deutsche Härte and other water hardness systems, including carbonate and
non-carbonate hardness, ppm, mg/l, mol/l, mmol/l, etc., etc.

The main problem is (apart from the fact that this should no longer be used
in Germany anyway) that this is just a list item, so I can't just convert a
value into something the English-speaking world will understand, it's more
fundamental than that.
