power shift gear/ power shift gear level Explanation: I confess I don't know much about tractors- above term is listed in Ernst: Lastschalt-und Wendegetriebe= power shift gear as for PS, this should be the abbrev. for Pferdestärke- horse power Your suggestion that "ob" is realy" ab" sounds plausible. powershift transmission / powershift gear Explanation: Confirming what Johanna has already suggested - Lastschaltgetriebe - powershift transmission (Ein Getriebe, das unter Last schaltbar ist, ohne zu kuppeln oder vom Gas gehen zu müssen) For Stufe, I'd suggest gear (Fahrstufe or Gang - gear). I agree that "ob" is "ab", and PS (Pferdestärke) is hp (horsepower) Incidentally, this puts one of your questions from yesterday into a new light - Wenden ohne Kupplung nicht mehr möglich - the tractor couldn't be turned around any more without clutching HTH Schmitt, Fachwrterbuch der Kfz-Technik |

comment Explanation: aha! Another meaning of Wende(n) is 'reverse' -- thus this is a reverse gearshift that can be operated under load (probably very handy with a tractor) AND (yes!) the answer to your previous question is 'cannot be shifted into reverse without clutching (told you so!). Presumably there is some sort of safety device to prevent accidentally shifting into reverse (could be dangerous or damage equipment being pulled by the tractor). |
