Steigleitern müssen fest und entsprechend der Aufbauanleitung des Herstellers montiert sein.
Die ausführende Montagefirma hat die fachgerechte Montage und ausreichende Festigkeit der Steigleiter zu garantieren (Schriftform, mit Unterschrift des verantwortlichen Montageleiters).
Der Abstand zwischen den Leitersprossen und der Wand muss mindestens 150 mm betragen.
Die Trittfläche darf z. B. nicht durch Dachkanten eingeengt werden.
Steigleitern mit einer Länge von 5 bis 10 m müssen mit einer Einrichtung zum Schutz gegen Absturz (Rückenkorb gemäß VBG 74 oder Führungsschiene) versehen sein.
Steigleitern ab 10 m Höhe müssen mit Steigschutzeinrichtungen versehen sein, die den Einsatz von Sicherheitsgeschirren ermöglichen.
Bei Steigleitern über 10 m Länge ist in Abständen von höchstens 10 m jeweils ein Ruhepodest
vorzusehen.
