carding (roving) Explanation: Karden is carding, Kardenband is (cotton, in this case) card (or rove). This is from Webster´s Dictionary 1913: Rove (Rove) n. ... 2. A roll or sliver of wool or cotton drawn out and slighty twisted, preparatory to further process; a roving. And so is this: "Rove (?), v. t. [perhaps fr. or akin to reeve.] ... 2. To draw out into falkes; to card, as wool. Jamieson. Carding is the more current term. The Vorspinnmaschinen produce the cards, and this process is called "carding".
