1828 schließlich erhielten Reithoffer und sein Partner August Purtscher das „Privileg auf die Erfindung, mittels Maschinen zweierlei Gattungen elastischer FEDERSCHNÜRE und Gewebe zu fertigen“. Dabei wurde Kautschuk in Streifen geschnitten und mit Zwirn, Seide oder Wolle überflochten.

Selbstverständlich kann es nicht "spring wire" heißen, denn das wäre Federdraht (vgl. Ernst Wörterbuch der industriellen Technik). Statt dessen handelt es sich eher um eine Art elastischer Faden (eingesponnene Gummifäden)
