Vital substances Explanation: The obvious is "vital substances." My Thieme German>English dictionary of clinical medicine confirms both as acceptable translations of each of the parts in the compound, but what does that really mean? The Northern Light search engine produced almost 900 sources for "vital substances," one of which is given below. In that case, Vitamin C is referred to as a vital substance. At http://www.ama-assn.org/insight/gen_hlth/glossary/glos_l.htm... a medical glossary, "vital substances" appears under the definition for liver: "Liver- the largest organ in the body, producing many essential chemicals and regulating the levels of most vital substances in the blood." Another reference: http://www.critpath.org/aric/gloss/body/pancreas.htm "The pancreas produces several important hormones, among them insulin and glucagon, both of which are vital substances that help to regulate blood sugar levels (the levels of dissolved glucose in the blood)." So, "vital" in the sense of life-giving and life-sustaining, necessary. www.internetwks.com/pauling/; At www.ama-assn.org/insight/gen_hlth/glossary/glos_l.htm Reference: http://www.critpath.org/aric/gloss/body/pancreas.htm |

sometimes also vitamins etc. Explanation: I fully agree with the earlier answers, it really depends on the context, but sometimes the term Vitalstoffe is being used in a sense of vitamins and other essential supplements (i.e. providing what the body needs), which might be the case here, seeing it is a pharma ad. |

essential substances or materials Explanation: depends on the context personal knowledge provided by M. Rosner, D.V.M. |

essential nutrients Explanation: I've seen it used that way. In the ad, I'd bet that the thing advertised contains essential nutrients that the consumer is expected to consume, as opposed to vital materials that are produced in the body. Marketing language is the above suggestion. earch for herbal remedies on the Net and see that kind of language. |

Vital substances Explanation: Vitalstoffe is one of these words that can cover a lot of very different things. It may be sumething reasonable, such as vitamins and minerals, but it may also be ginseng root or some obscure herb extracts that supposedly make you superman, and that no serious medical doctor will want to give you...So depending on what it is, "vitamins and minerals" could be the better translation. |
