Tech/Engineering / sound barrier
German term or phrase: VERY URGENT: sie wollte immer nach oben weg
Hi, this is from an account of going thru the sound barrier. After the plane does its buffeting bit, he can steer it again, then the engines stall, he gets them started again and ...

Das Problem war nur, dass die Maschine sich nicht mehr richtig fliegen liess. Sie wollte immer nach oben weg, wenn ich unter 900 km/h kam.

Now, it seems to me that "nach oben weg" would mean "assuming a nose UP attitude". Is there any way it could mean the opposite, i.e. a nose DOWN attitude, and if so would you be so kind as to explain? As you can tell, I don't know enough about flying and can't get a hold of my pilot friend at the moment.

Thanks very much in advance!
