Kurven?? Kruemmungen?? - Explanation: STRAK smooth outline of a body moving in a fluid could be for a boat -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2003-04-02 20:41:08 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Hi Alan, Although there is a reference in KudoZ quoting curve data - I have the feeling STRAK comes from \'Stromlinienform\' - they are designing \'streamlined bodies\'. Can\'t think what the rest stands for. |

No translation but I hope this can be of any help. see also http://www.tu-dresden.de/presse/kontakt/300.htm (nb "Strak-Konstrukteure" and their work) Steffen -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2003-04-02 12:59:39 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://www.uni-stuttgart.de/100-online/e-letter/archiv/07_20... provides a def of the activity of \"Straken\" (end of page 1). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2003-04-02 14:59:42 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://www.ifb.uni-stuttgart.de/~doerner/darstellungII.html provides some more pictures in conjunction with \"Strak\". shape lines Explanation: The Brockhaus defines 'Strak' (or 'Straak'} as: '[nd. von Streichen] ... der Verlauf der Kurven des Linienrisses, wie Decksprung, Wasserlinien, Schnitte, Spanten und Senten, die harmonisch laufen müssen.' It's thus orignally a boatbuilder's term and Plattdeutsch. It doesn't seem be used any more in boatbuilding, but it is common in aircraft design. Here it is often used to refer not to just a single line, but also a collection of lines that defines the (external) form of a closed object (such as an airfoil or aircraft fuselage). One suggestion of a synonym that I have seen is 'Linineführung'. 'shape line(s)' is a guess (I'm not that familiar with any CAD packages); it gets a few relevant hits on Google. If I had to invent a translation I would use 'formlines', but that gets even fewer hits (sigh...). In any |
