coated electrodes Explanation: I think you are indeed on a fausse piste with thinking about the protective gases used in some types of welding (MIG and TIG). Coated electrodes deposit a slag on the top of the molten weld metal to protect it from the air,and hence prevent any reactions, particularly with oxygen, which would produce non-metallic deposits in the weld metal, which weaken the weld. 30 years in the steel industry ! |
