You have perfectly understood the meaning.
I just think that "service messages" or "working message" would be more appropriate because it is the expression which I usually find in the English texts which I translate.
"Error messages" is absolutely perfect, it is the most common expression used for warning, alarm, fault or malfunction messages. In german "Störung", "stören" means only that something is not normal, the cause is undefined. (Defekt = Faulty).
