smoldering fire place, condensing atmosphere Explanation: schwelstelle = slmoldering fire place/box The place where the smoldering fire (schwelbrand) is lit. It's a slow burning process which keeps the temperature relatively low. Sattdampf = saturating vapour. This is said from the vapor (water vapor usually) when it reaches the satuation point, ie where it starts to condense. Sattdampfatmosphäre = condensing or saturating atmosphere. Humidity/water can be left off, it is implicit that it is what is condensing (just like in German) (Mats is right here there is a typo error!) smoulder (smudge) location (maybe even container?) / saturated steam Explanation: Just a few stabs in the dark: Schwelstelle would be the location or spot where the saw dust is smouldering (presumably on purpose so as to produce smoke). "smudge pot" or "smudging location" might be other alternatives for Schwelstelle - Here in California (and in Florida, too), the orchard farmers often use "smudge-pots" on cold nights; these smudge pots smoulder all night long, producing smoke and thus enough heat to keep the fruit from freezing. Sattdampfatmosphäre - Sattdampf is saturated steam, and it seems to me you might just be able to use a phrase such "heat the system with saturated steam" Kucera: Dictionary of Chemistry German-English : Sattdampf m / saturated steam Ernst Deutsch-Englisch : schwelen vi, glimmen, glosen / smo[u]lder Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
