|German term or phrase: Vorstechnadel|
|Halteschienen fuer die Vorstechnadeln von Buchbinderei-Heftmaschinene|
see explanation below - sounds like the thing you are translating, doesn't it?
In the usual type of sewing machine, one section after another is placed on a feeding arm which brings each to the part of the book already sewn. Fully automatic machines feed sections by means of vacuum suckers and/or mechanical grippers which are electronically programmed to reject imperfect sections. The feeding arm forms a saddle with a pronounced ridge over which the half-open section is so placed that the fold is immediately above the edge of the saddle. The saddle has a row of holes through which punches rise and puncture the section. Immediately thereafter, threaded needles descend from above and pass through the holes created by the punches.
